Do I need to read music to use this site?

No. The listening guides and instrument pages are written for the ear. Music notation appears only where it explains an idea that is hard to describe in words.

Where should a complete beginner start?

With three short pieces rather than one long symphony. Pick a composer profile, listen to the single work suggested at the end of it, and only then move to a larger form.

Why do you avoid ranking recordings?

Because taste and interpretation are not measurements. A performance that convinces one listener may leave another cold, and the differences between them are exactly what makes the repertoire worth revisiting.

Are the quizzes graded?

No. They are self-tests with explained answers. Their only purpose is to show you which details you have actually absorbed and which need another listen.

How often is the site updated?

Articles are revised when a fact needs correcting or a passage needs clarifying. New pieces are added to the existing rubrics rather than in dated news bursts.
